Teaching a Man To Fish Is Important, But That's Only Half The Problem

A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circlue of our felicities.
-Thomas Jefferson

Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.
-Ronald Reagan

Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.
--Ronald Reagan

Feeling good about government is like looking on the bright side of any catastrophe. When you quit looking on the bright side, the catastrophe is still there.
-P. J. O'Rourke

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
-Ronald Reagan

If 'pro' is the opposite of 'con' what is the opposite of 'progress'?
-Paul Harvey

That government is best which governs least.
-Henry David Thoreau

Man is not free unless government is limited.
-Ronald Reagan

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
-Thomas Jefferson

The government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem.
-Milton Friedman

You don't pay taxes - they take taxes.
-Chris Rock

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.
-Mark Twain

The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Liberal Jokes Really Aren't Very Funny

(A liberal's) jokes don't actually strive for humor because politics is their religion, and on a scale of 1 to Muslim they're very "religious."

Think about it, even their best shot doesn't inspire any laughter whatsoever. Does Joe Biden make you laugh or cry?

Now add "Vice President" to his name and you won't need to be a magician to make a box of tissues disappear.

So, comedian Jimmy Kimmel recently hosted the White House Correspondents Dinner, and in an interview with Howard Stern he revealed a joke he was warned he shouldn't tell.

The joke is in bold. If you're easily offended this would be the time to look at another OMG! post, because this will offend people who are impossible to offend...

STERN: Were there jokes you left out because you felt they were too harsh about the president?

KIMMEL: Yeah, there were. Yeah. I mean, you know…

STERN: You wouldn’t have felt comfortable delivering it because it would have been over the top?

KIMMEL: Like, I decided right off the bat that the N word was out.

STERN: You did, that’s not like you. You use the N word every night in your monologue at least twice. [Both laugh]

KIMMEL: I had some jokes about — like Rick Santorum. I said something like — well, I didn’t say it, but: Newt Gingrich’s campaign is so dead Mitt Romney wants to baptize it and Rick Santorum wants to put it in a jar and show it to his kids.

See the entire exchange at Jim Romenesko

It's a good thing he was talked out of it, because laughing gas couldn't make that joke work, but there are probably people out there (his fellow liberals?) who would enjoy it. It would, however, take a special lack of decency to get there.

This is why liberals think conservatives aren't funny. Their sense of humor lives on a separate moral and intellectual plane that exists somewhere between Hell and San Francisco (I don't remember which one comes first...Hell? I don't know!).

Why does this matter? Well, if all you eat is greasy fast food, then a (healthier) ham and cheese sandwich will taste terrible. So if cruel, tragedy exploiting, hyperbolic-to-the-point-of-inaccurate, abortion-adjacent "jokes" tickle your funny bone then something like this...

...would seem a bit uninspired.

The reality of it is liberals are the ones who aren't very funny. Their jokes don't actually strive for humor because politics is their religion, and on a scale of 1 to Muslim they're very..."religious."

It's a good thing Kimmel didn't tell that joke, or else I would've had to stop pretending he's a real comedian.

Facebook Founder Avoids Taxes and the Dempire Strikes Back

A couple of days ago I posted on Facebook founder Eduardo Saverin's decision to duck paying a few boat loads of taxes by fleeing citizenship. Well, one political party has decided to do something about it, and if you can't guess which one, then election day this year, for you, is November 7th.

In September 2011, Saverin relinquished his U.S. citizenship before the company announced its planned initial public offering of stock, which will debut this week. The move was likely a financial one, as he owns an estimated 4 percent of Facebook and stands to make $4 billion when the company goes public. Saverin would reap the benefit of tax savings by becoming a permanent resident of Singapore, which levies no capital gains taxes.

At a news conference this morning, Sens. Schumer and Bob Casey, D-Pa., will unveil the “Ex-PATRIOT” – “Expatriation Prevention by Abolishing Tax-Related Incentives for Offshore Tenancy” – Act to respond directly to Saverin’s move, which they dub a “scheme” that would “help him duck up to $67 million in taxes.”

More here

$67 million is nothing to sneeze at...at all...and I don't know that I'm on Saverin's side on this, but Democrats will never learn that taxation has consequences, and people are always going to be looking for the way out from under them.

People have a natural yearning for freedom, and while all taxation isn't bad, the Democrat's obsession with finding (new/more/sneakier) ways to collect them makes them the party that is inherently anti-freedom. That's just a fact.

Joe Biden Becomes Unhinged During Class Warfare Rant

h/t Weasel Zippers for the video.

The people who don't get it are Democrats. This speech is defending a president who gave birth to "Joe the Plumber" (who is now running for Congress) after he declared spreading the wealth to be a good thing.

Obama has also declared that he believes there is a point at which people make too much money.

If you believe others live in excess, then your political positions will seek to do nothing more than limit that excess by taxing it and giving that tax revenue to the "dreamers" who now have no incentive to dream anymore.

This belief can only be born out of envy, and the Vice President is dead wrong to say his detractors "don't get it." Conservatives apparently know liberals better than they know themselves.

You won't build up the dreams of anyone by tearing down the achievement of others.

Will Smith Demonstrates Liberal Ignorance Of What "Fair Share" Actually Means

The truth is none of them know what is fair, they envelop themselves in rhetoric they don't understand. How much do you want to bet the liberal media will play the silent game with this?

Will Smith: I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here—I'm a black man who didn't go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist. So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing. . . .

Interviewer: Do you know how much in France you would have to pay on earnings above one million euros [under new French President Francois Hollande's proposal]? Not 30%. 75%.

Smith: 75?! Yeah, that's different, that's different. Yeah, 75. Well, you know, God bless America.

Without Unity The Constitution Is Just A Piece Of Paper

"Without unity, the Constitution is just a piece of paper." - Abraham Lincoln

The left is united and hell-bent on making us hell-sent.  And you and I have a choice:  We can either join them through our complicit silence OR we can defeat them through (as MLK said) our dangerous sense of selflessness.

Our military men and women prove every day that selfless sacrifice is always the path to enduring victory.  Shall we forget their example or will we recognize that every one of us is a soldier and must do our duty?   Stop, and honestly think:  Do I consider myself a soldier, as necessary and potentially as powerful, as the man dying for my freedom in a foreign land?

That's a strange question.  But before dismissing it, think of the example of Abraham Lincoln and countless others who gave their lives off-the-battlefield that this nation might live.  They dedicated themselves to a cause greater than themselves - a cause built on liberty and unity.

And this is where we differ from our liberal and democratic friends: They ask others to sacrifice for their own freedom to do what they would.  But we conservatives and true Americans self-sacrifice so others have freedom to do what they should.

Obama, The Name-Dropper-In-Chief Since 1924

How is that possible if he was born in 1961? Well, as Orwell put it: "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."

Given that we live in a world where reality is so virtual that Obama has turned the presidency into some bad reality show where taxpayers are the junior producers who lost their shirts on the investment, it's not a surprise that Obama has managed to attach himself to the histories of almost every president since Calvin Coolidge.

Holy smokes that's the wrong Calvin! He didn't even look old enough to vote without help from  ACORN. Sorry if that offended anyone more than the usurpation of history below.

Many of President Obama’s fervent devotees are young enough not to have much memory of the political world before the arrival of The One. Coincidentally, Obama himself feels the same way—and the White House’s official website reflects that...it turns out Obama has added bullet points bragging about his own accomplishments to the biographical sketches (at whitehouse.gov) of every single U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge (except, for some reason, Gerald Ford). Here are a few examples:

On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a public radio address to the American people. President Coolidge later helped create the Federal Radio Commission, which has now evolved to become the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). President Obama became the first president to hold virtual gatherings and town halls using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc.

In a 1946 letter to the National Urban League, President Truman wrote that the government has “an obligation to see that the civil rights of every citizen are fully and equally protected.” He ended racial segregation in civil service and the armed forces in 1948. Today the Obama administration continues to strive toward upholding the civil rights of its citizens, repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, allowing people of all sexual orientations to serve openly in our armed forces.

President Obama does have his place in history, it's just not from before he was born, and it definitely isn't anything to get nostalgic over.

The Only Jobs Obama Has Created Are Snow Jobs

While Barack Obama was spending time trying to figure out how to tear America down Mitt Romney was helping build it up.

That's the M.O. of the left, they're much better a tearing things down. In a just world liberals would be rounded up and thrown into rooms with walls covered in wrapping paper. They would be like cats with catnip laced yarn.

Then we could have an America where adults would be in charge again.

Kidding aside, this is the narrative the Romney campaign needs to flood the planet with, not one dime of taxpayer money was needed to create the thousands of jobs Romney helped create. Even Obama admit a year and a half ago that "shovel-ready jobs" were none-of-the-above. Even if the economy gets better stories like the one below are going to be powerful.

If Chris Matthews Is Smart, I'd Hate To Know What Dumb Is...

Here's a fun story to start off the day...

Liberals are the smartest people in the room, don't you know!

It's too bad the left has become so secular, because then the term "modern day Pharisees" might mean something to them...

On at least four occasions, MSNBC's Chris Matthews mocked Sarah Palin for how he felt she'd do if she were ever on the hit television game show Jeopardy!.

In a delicious example of instant karma, the self-proclaimed brainiac got his chance to show America how smart he was in a special "Power Players" version of the show Monday, but came up quite short finishing dead last with the paltry sum of only $2,300 (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Abandoning America Isn't Heroic

Facebook's co-founder has renounced his citizenship, ostensibly to escape it's tax system, according to John Tamny at Forbes (emphasis mine).

As is well known now, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin recently renounced his U.S. citizenship. Though no specific reason was given by Saverin for his decision, wise minds could very credibly proclaim him an American hero for doing what he did....

Saverin’s departure is also a reminder to politicians that while they can obnoxiously decree what percentage of our income we’ll hand them in taxes, what they vote for won’t necessarily reflect reality. Indeed, as evidenced by Saverin’s renunciation, tax rates and collection of monies on those rates are two different things. Assuming nosebleed rates of taxation were a driver of Saverin’s decision, politicians will hopefully see that if too greedy about collecting the money of others, they’ll eventually collect nothing.

More here.

Does this make him a hero as Tammy suggests?

I'm all for making big government understand how destructive it's imposition on our lives is, but America is the last and best hope on Earth. Renounce citizenship of this great nation can't surely lead Saverin to a better place...I'm not sure it's very heroic to run away from the system, as opposed to fighting for (the right) change within it.

Saverin being driven by self-interest certainly is a sympathetic motivation, but we should probably reserve the term "hero" for people who do heroic things.
